Event Description (Available Tickets Below Video)

Fun. is an American indie pop and alternative rock band that captured the hearts of music fans worldwide in the early 2010s with their anthemic, emotionally charged songs and soaring melodies. Known for their theatrical style and dynamic sound, Fun. combined elements of pop, rock, and indie with hints of baroque and electronic influences.

The band was formed in 2008 in New York City by Nate Ruess, formerly the frontman of The Format, after his previous band dissolved. Looking to start a new project, Ruess teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Andrew Dost, who had previously played with Anathallo, and Jack Antonoff, guitarist for Steel Train. Together, the trio created a unique musical chemistry, fusing their diverse backgrounds and songwriting styles.

Fun. released their debut album, Aim and Ignite, in 2009. The album, praised for its elaborate arrangements and theatrical pop-rock sound, received positive reviews from critics and established the band within the indie scene. Tracks like “All the Pretty Girls” and “Be Calm” highlighted the band’s flair for clever lyrics and ambitious, melodic compositions, though mainstream success was still just out of reach.

That changed dramatically with the release of their second album, Some Nights, in 2012. Produced by Jeff Bhasker, the album introduced a more polished, anthemic sound blending indie pop with hip-hop-inspired beats and Queen-style harmonies. The breakout single “We Are Young,” featuring Janelle Monáe, became a global sensation. The track topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned widespread acclaim, becoming a defining song of the decade. It won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 2013 and remains Fun.’s signature hit.

Following the success of “We Are Young,” the band released other standout singles from Some Nights, including the title track “Some Nights” and “Carry On.” Both songs received heavy radio play and solidified Fun.’s reputation for crafting uplifting, emotionally resonant anthems with singalong choruses and introspective lyrics.

Fun.’s rapid rise earned them two Grammy Awards in 2013: Best New Artist and Song of the Year for “We Are Young.” Their music struck a chord with audiences for its mix of vulnerability, theatricality, and radio-friendly hooks.

Despite their success, Fun. went on an indefinite hiatus in 2015. Each member pursued individual projects: Nate Ruess launched a solo career with his 2015 album Grand Romantic, while Jack Antonoff became one of pop music’s most in-demand producers and songwriters, working with major artists like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey. Andrew Dost has focused on scoring film and television music.

Though Fun. has not officially disbanded, the members have indicated that they are content exploring separate creative paths. Their brief but impactful run left a lasting mark on pop and indie music, with Some Nights often regarded as one of the defining albums of the 2010s. Fun.’s music continues to resonate with fans who connected with their grand, heartfelt anthems and adventurous pop sound.
