Wiz Khalifa, born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor best known for his laid-back flow, weed-centric lifestyle, and chart-topping hits. Over the past decade, Wiz has built a reputation as one of hip-hop’s most consistent and charismatic figures, blending catchy hooks with smooth, melodic rap verses.

Born in Minot, North Dakota, Wiz Khalifa moved frequently during his childhood due to his parents’ military careers, living in places like Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan before settling in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was in Pittsburgh that Wiz found his passion for music, beginning to write and record his own tracks at a young age. His stage name, “Wiz,” was inspired by the word “wisdom,” and “Khalifa” is an Arabic word meaning “successor.”

Wiz Khalifa’s early work caught the attention of local and underground rap fans. In 2006, he released his debut album Show and Prove, which earned him critical praise and positioned him as a rising talent in the Pittsburgh rap scene. However, it was his 2010 smash hit “Black and Yellow” that propelled Wiz to mainstream superstardom. The track, a tribute to Pittsburgh’s sports teams, became a cultural anthem and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its success paved the way for his major label debut album, Rolling Papers (2011), which included other hit singles like “Roll Up” and “No Sleep.”

Wiz continued to build on this momentum with a string of successful projects and collaborations. In 2012, he teamed up with Snoop Dogg for the stoner comedy film and soundtrack Mac & Devin Go to High School, which featured the viral hit “Young, Wild & Free.” The feel-good anthem featuring Bruno Mars became a fan favorite and earned multi-platinum certification.

In 2015, Wiz Khalifa scored one of the biggest hits of his career with “See You Again,” a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker for the Furious 7 soundtrack. Featuring Charlie Puth, the emotional ballad topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks and became one of the most streamed songs of all time.

Aside from music, Wiz Khalifa is known for his entrepreneurial ventures, particularly in the cannabis industry. He’s a vocal advocate for marijuana legalization and has his own brand, Khalifa Kush, which offers a line of cannabis products.

In his personal life, Wiz was married to model and actress Amber Rose from 2013 to 2014, and the pair share a son, Sebastian Taylor Thomaz, born in 2013. Despite the couple’s split, they’ve remained publicly amicable while co-parenting their child.
