50 Cent, born Curtis James Jackson III on July 6, 1975, is an American rapper, actor, producer, and entrepreneur who became one of hip-hop’s biggest stars in the early 2000s. Known for his gritty lyrics, street-hardened persona, and larger-than-life presence, 50 Cent’s rise from a troubled upbringing to global fame is one of rap’s most remarkable success stories.

Born and raised in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City, Curtis Jackson had a tough childhood. His mother, a drug dealer, was tragically murdered when he was just eight years old, and he was raised by his grandparents. In his teenage years, Jackson became involved in the drug trade, but eventually turned to music as a way out of street life. He adopted the stage name 50 Cent, symbolizing change and survival.

50 Cent first gained attention with his underground single “How to Rob” in 1999, a humorous track imagining how he’d rob famous artists in the industry. While the song created buzz, a near-fatal shooting in 2000 — where he was struck by nine bullets — temporarily derailed his career. Remarkably, Jackson survived and used the incident as fuel for his music, giving him a hardened, authentic edge that resonated with fans.

His major breakthrough came in 2003 when he was discovered by Eminem, who signed him to Shady Records under the mentorship of Dr. Dre. That same year, 50 Cent released his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which became a cultural phenomenon. Fueled by hits like “In Da Club,” “21 Questions,” “Many Men (Wish Death),” and “P.I.M.P.,” the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell over 9 million copies in the U.S. alone.

He followed up with The Massacre in 2005, featuring chart-toppers such as “Candy Shop” and “Just a Lil Bit.” The album continued his dominance of the hip-hop scene and cemented his status as one of the top-selling rappers of his era.

Beyond music, 50 Cent expanded his brand into film and business. He starred in the semi-autobiographical movie Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2005 and appeared in several other films and TV shows. As an entrepreneur, Jackson made a fortune through ventures like his investment in Vitaminwater, which reportedly earned him tens of millions when the company was sold to Coca-Cola.

In his personal life, 50 Cent is the father of two sons and has often spoken about the importance of fatherhood, despite having had a publicized strained relationship with his older son. Known for his humor and fearless nature, he’s as famous for his social media antics and feuds as for his music.

In recent years, 50 Cent has found success as a television producer, most notably as the executive producer and star of the hit crime drama Power, along with its spin-offs. Today, he continues to balance music, film, business, and television, solidifying his legacy as one of hip-hop’s most influential figures.
