Tyler, The Creator is one of the most original and influential voices in modern hip-hop and alternative music. Born Tyler Gregory Okonma on March 6, 1991, in Ladera Heights, California, he’s known for his provocative lyrics, creative vision, and genre-blurring sound. Over the years, Tyler has evolved from a rebellious underground rapper to a critically acclaimed artist, producer, and fashion designer.
Tyler first gained attention in the late 2000s as the leader and co-founder of Odd Future (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, or OFWGKTA), a controversial and energetic hip-hop collective. Odd Future’s raw, unfiltered style caught the internet’s attention, with Tyler’s 2009 solo mixtape Bastard making waves for its dark themes and gritty production. In 2011, Tyler released his debut studio album Goblin, featuring the breakout single “Yonkers.” The track’s eerie beat, shocking lyrics, and viral music video quickly turned Tyler into one of hip-hop’s most talked-about new artists.

Songs like “See You Again” featuring Kali Uchis and “Who Dat Boy” featuring A$AP Rocky highlighted Tyler’s ability to craft catchy, emotionally resonant tracks while maintaining his signature edge. Flower Boy earned Tyler his first Grammy nomination and solidified his status as a major creative force.
In 2019, Tyler released IGOR, a genre-defying project blending funk, R&B, and synth-heavy hip-hop. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Tracks like “EARFQUAKE” and “I THINK” showcased Tyler’s growth as a songwriter and producer, with IGOR praised for its cohesive storytelling and emotional depth.
Tyler followed up with Call Me If You Get Lost in 2021, another chart-topping project that blended rap bravado with introspective moments. The album featured collaborations with artists like Lil Wayne, Brent Faiyaz, and Pharrell Williams, and earned him a second Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2022.
Outside of music, Tyler is known for his fashion brand, Golf Wang, and the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, an annual Los Angeles music festival he curates. His bold personal style and unapologetic personality have made him a cultural icon beyond the music scene.
